We have found after over 15 years of experience that a turn key service for full homes gives our clients the best value for their dollar and maximizes our strengths and experience. Our best work follows a step-by-step process where we work closely with our clients. It typically occurs over a period of one to two years, with each step demanding time and attention to ensure successful completion.

    The team at J White Designs makes it a priority to work closely with the builder, architect, contractors and client with the attitude that we are all on the same team and working together to turn the client’s vision into a reality. For us, sometimes that means the facilitating exterior finish selections, changing a design to tailor the builder’s ideas, or showing up for a last minute grout selection meeting with a tile contractor. In any case, our philosophy is to work in harmony to achieve the most successful project.

    With over 15 years of experience, Julie White understands the details of construction and complications that can arise from designs that may be impractical or cost prohibitive. Therefore, J White Designs strives to create designs that are well thought out through execution and include necessary details to allow the builder and contractors to understand the design intent. For us, sometimes that means paying attention to terminating the cut edges of tile, varying flooring thicknesses ensuring flat transitions, working alongside an ironsmith to get the dimensions just right, or even being on site when the tile contractor is laying out a shower wall to ensure the tile spacing works well.

  • Thorough Drawings

    Including every detail, the scaled plans, elevations and detail drawings produced by J White Designs fully showcase each area, allowing the builder and contractors all the information they need to execute the design. These details may include the direction of wood flooring, the pattern of a backlash tile, the edge detail of a countertop, the profile of cabinetry door styles, installation heights of shower plumbing fixtures, accurate door and window sizes and even grout colors. With this level of detail, the client is presented with a thorough design solution which allows visualizing the space to be a bit easier.

How We Work

  • Programming

    Beginning at our first initial meeting, the programming phase encompasses understanding our client’s needs, goals and style through conversation, sharing visual images, and reviewing the floor plans. This page often includes initial space planning to ensure that the floor plan accommodates all the needed functions.

  • Design Development

    As the client’s vision becomes clear to J White Designs, we begin a three to six month process collaborating on flooring, ceiling and furniture plans. Then moving room by room, we present our clients with detailed elevations, finish samples, and conceptual images that convey our design concept. These selections include preliminary cabinetry, countertops, back splash, shower, accent wall and unique design details. Showroom visits assist with appliance and plumbing selections. We complete these with our clients trusting that J White Designs can visualize their new home. Wrapping up this phase, we discuss details like interior doors, door hardware, woodwork details, closet systems and special electrical and audio visual requirements.

  • Construction Documents

    Now that many of our selections have been made, the J White Designs team works hard to fully detail and compile all information thus far. We produce finish schedules, digital color boards of finishes, product info sheets and thoroughly detailed elevations and plans. This process results in a fully detailed specification manual that becomes a guidebook for the builder, architect and client to bid the project, begin construction and reference throughout the construction process.

  • Construction Involvement

    After turning over the specification manual to the builder, J White Designs takes a back seat as the builder begins construction. We remain available for any contractor questions, job site walk throughs, electrical detailing, and further interior consultation. In this phase, we also work together with our clients on further selections like paint colors, cabinetry hardware, decorative lighting and carpeting.

FURNISHING SCHEMATICS AND DESIGNS

As the home takes shape in framing, we begin shifting our focus towards furnishings, starting with re-evaluating the furniture plan and discussing style and scope that may have changed along the way. Again moving room by room, we present our clients with furnishing selections, product info sheets and finish and fabric samples. We pay close attention to scale, function and color to ensure that each piece is perfect, allowing our clients to trust in our expertise. Our goal is to establish the bones of each room and focus on the big pieces first that have the longest lead times. Then we move to accent items like bedding, window treatments, artwork and accessories. Once selections have been made, we present our clients with detailed proposals for approval and deposit.

Procurement and Management

Once deposits have been collected, the J White Designs team manages the entire order process from start to finish, including placing orders, tracking confirmations, approving shop drawings and dyelot cuttings, ensuring lead times and tracking shipments. This is the leg work and time consuming service that takes the stress out of the furniture buying process for our clients. We also work closely with a third party receiver skilled in furnishings who receives, inspects, stores and installs all purchases.

Completion and Installation

As construction is nearing completion, J White Designs works closely with the builder to establish the perfect timing between subcontractor punch list items and installing all of the furnishings. Usually encompassing a full week, we manage and work alongside teams for furniture, area rug, window treatment and art installations. We have long days mixed with making beds, placing accessories, and folding the last towel to present our clients with a turn key home. Our clients just turn the key and unlock their front door to their completed and fully appointed new home.
